Cockroaches need three things: warmth, moisture and food. Remove any one of them consistently and your kitchen stops being worth the trip.
Fix the moisture first
Cockroaches can survive weeks without food but only days without water. A dripping tap, a damp cupboard under the sink or condensation behind the fridge will keep a population alive even in an otherwise spotless kitchen.
Dry the sink at night, fix leaking joints, and make sure the gap behind and beneath appliances is dry and reachable for cleaning.
Close the routes between units
In apartment buildings, most re-infestations arrive from a neighbouring unit through shared drainage, service risers and gaps around pipework rather than the front door.
Sealing those penetrations with proper sealant, and fitting drain covers overnight, removes the highway rather than just the traffic on it.
Why sprays alone disappoint
Surface sprays kill what they touch. The nymphs and egg cases tucked inside warm voids — behind motors, inside cabinet joints — are untouched, so numbers recover within weeks.
Gel baiting works differently: foraging roaches carry the active ingredient back into the harbourage, which reaches the insects you never see. That is why a professional treatment is followed by a second visit timed to the breeding cycle.
